Interview with Cristina Scabbia.

1. You’ ve been (officially) with Lacuna Coil since 1996. How does it feel for a girl to lead a very successful heavy metal band?

**I’ ve always been professional since day one, without thinking about being a woman, at all. I don't think it makes a big difference as long as you understand that you have to do your job the best you can.

I got recognition for all my efforts, but it would have been the same even if I my sex was different.

It feels good to have been able to achieve respect, credibility and popularity, though. That means people understood me and liked what I did so far.

2. Your latest album “Karmacode” has been already out for two years. Are you up to something new?

** Yes, after a lot of tours to promote Karmacode we decided to take a break to write new stuff for a new album that will be out in 2009. The song's so far are the best we've ever did, so we can't really wait to start the recording and give you a brand new album that will rock your socks off!

In the meantime we are preparing our first dvd, that will be related to the "Karmacode" album, with special live contents and a lot of other cool stuff.

Our fans will love it and whoever doesn't know Lacuna coil yet will find out different sides of us, as members and as a whole band.

3. You covered Depeche Mode’s hymn “Enjoy the Silence” in your, heavier, way. Why did you pick that song?

** Because it's a good song and we wanted something very popular that the people could sing and enjoy with us during our live shows.

It was not intended to be released as a single, in the beginning, just as a bonus track; but the fans liked it so much that... kinda became a little bit our hymn, as well.

4. Christina, for many, you are considered to be the hottest chick in metal. How do you feel with this title? How does it affect you as a person and also as a musician?

** Usually this affects people who likes gossips and loves to give names to people based on the surface only.

I didn't change my life, or personality, or anything, for that.

You think I'm sexy? Cool. You think I'm not? Who really cares? Is it so important for other people's life? I don't think so.

Curious, though. As far as I know there's not a "hottest male cathegory", and there's not such a big fuzz about male singers or musicians that during the years have been pushing their "sexy side" as well.

But when it comes to a woman it seems that everything is different and more odd.

I don't really care about that. I'm proud to be a woman and don't want to hide my femininity at all.

In the end, if some people wants to concentrate more on this part of myself instead of admitting that beauty is not enough to reach a certain level in this job, well, I just let them talk and keep on enjoying my life.

5. Apart from singing, you also have a monthly column at the American music magazine Revolver. What kind of emails/letters do people send you?

**Different types of letters... people tell me about relationships problems, or problems with their own sexuality. Some people asks me how to start a band or how to become more self confident. I love to answer questions for this column.

6. Are you a career woman? Do you want perhaps to have a family at some point? Do you think that a woman can have a career together with a family?

** I think that you have to do whatever can makes you happy and not living with a "script for life" that someone else wants to write for you.

Doesn't matter if you are living for your job, or a family, or if you'll never have this family, as long as it's a personal choice.

that's why if you want both, you'll be able to take care about both, career and family, if you really want to.

I'm happy as I am right now, because I never make plans, anyway.
